Official Contest Rules
NO PURCHASE OF ANY KIND IS NECESSARY TO ENTER OR WIN.
1. SPONSOR:
The Take Action on Radon, Knowvember Contest (2024) (the “Contest”) is sponsored by the Canadian Association of Radon Scientists and Technologists, 4 Donald McClintock Bay, Winnipeg, Manitoba, R2G 3N3 (the “Sponsor”). Not sponsored, endorsed, administered by or associated with Facebook or Instagram.
2. ELIGIBILITY:
This Contest is open to legal residents of Canada who have reached the age of majority in their province or territory of residence at the time of entry, with the exception of employees and board of directors of the Sponsor, prize sponsors, their parents, related and affiliated companies, subsidiaries, departments or agencies, franchisees, suppliers, advertising and promotional agencies, contest administrators, and any other parties engaged in the development, production or distribution of Contest materials (the “Ineligible Parties”) and any immediate family of the Ineligible Parties (parents, siblings, children, spouses and anyone living in the same household).
By participating in this Contest, entrants acknowledge compliance with, and agree to be bound by, these Contest Rules. Entrants who do not comply with any of the Contest Rules are subject to disqualification by the Sponsor, in the Sponsor’s sole discretion.
3. CONTEST DATES AND TIMES:
This Contest begins on October 15, 2024 at 12:01 a.m. ET and ends on November 30, 2024 at 11:59 p.m. ET (the “Contest Period”) after which time the Contest will be closed and no further entries shall be accepted.
4. HOW TO ENTER:
There are two (2) ways to enter into this Contest as follows:
Online Entry:
During the Contest Period, entrants may enter into this Contest by: (i) completing the Sponsor’s online form at www.knowvember.ca including their first and last name, telephone number and e-mail address; (ii) describing in up to one hundred (100) words what they have done to raise awareness of the negative effects of radon in their community (“Radon Awareness Activity”); and (iii) uploading a photograph that shows their Radon Awareness Activity that complies with the Rules For Photograph Submissions below (the “Entry Photo”). For examples of Radon Awareness Activities, visit www.knowvember.ca.
Mail-In Entries:
Entrants can also enter this Contest by: (i) downloading and completing the Sponsor’s entry form located at www.knowvember.ca; (ii) describing in up to one hundred (100) words their Radon Awareness Activity and (iii) printing their entry including a copy of their Entry Photo (see above for requirements for Entry Photo) and mailing their entry titled “Take Action On Radon Contest” to: the Canadian Association of Radon Scientists and Technologists, 4 Donald McClintock Bay, Winnipeg Manitoba, R2G 3N3. Mail-in entries must be received by the Sponsor by standard mail delivery no later than the end of the Contest Period.
Rules For Photograph Submissions:
Photographs submitted as part of online entries must be a jpg, jpeg or png file with a maximum size of 10 MB. Maximum one (1) file for each entry.
Limit of twenty (20) entries per person during the Contest Period regardless of the method of entry. All entries must be received before the end of the Contest Period.
Entry Submission Rules:
All entries are subject to the following rules, which may be determined by the Sponsor in its sole discretion, whose decisions are final:
- All entries must meet the entry requirement for this Contest of “raising awareness on the negative effects of radon in their community”.
- Entrants grant the Sponsor an exclusive license to use their entries for the administration of this Contest and in any advertising, marketing or publicity without notice or compensation, as may be edited, modified, or translated in the Sponsor’s sole discretion.
- The Sponsor may determine, in its sole discretion, whether to accept any entry and whether it will use any entry for any purpose, including in any marketing or publicity.
- Entries cannot be any of the following, all of which shall be determined by the Sponsor in its sole discretion:
- Sexually explicit or suggestive, unnecessarily violent towards or derogatory of any ethnic, racial, gender, religious, professional or age group or profane or descriptive of any dangerous activity.
- Promote alcohol, illegal drugs, tobacco, firearms/weapons (or the use of any of the foregoing), any activities that are unsafe or dangerous or any particular political agenda or message.
- Obscene, offensive or endorse any form of hate or hate group.
- Defame, misrepresent or contain disparaging remarks about the Sponsor or its products or any other people, products or companies.
- Contain trademarks, logos, intellectual property or content owned by third parties or advertise or promote any brand or product.
- Contain copyrighted materials owned by third parties.
- Refer to the name of any person without permission from that person for the entrant and the Sponsor to reproduce it.
- Reproduce, whether by photograph or any other means, the image of any other person without permission from that other person for the entrant and the Sponsor to reproduce it.
- Communicate messages inconsistent with the purpose of this Contest.
The Sponsor may require any entrant to obtain any third-party consent(s) that the Sponsor deems necessary for their entry, in Sponsor’s sole discretion, whether to satisfy intellectual property, privacy or any other applicable laws, before accepting an entry or using an entry for marketing, the administration of this Contest or any other purpose, any such consent(s) which may be required by the Sponsor being the sole obligation and expense of the entrant.
For this Contest receipt of an Internet entry occurs when the Sponsor’s server records the entry information. All entries must be complete and are subject to verification by the Sponsor, in its sole discretion.
Any attempt or suspected attempt to use robotic, automatic, programmed, or otherwise, illicit means to enter this Contest, or any other methods not authorized by these Contest Rules, for example, but not limited to, creating multiple accounts, identities, or registrations, using any script, macro, bot or contest service, all in the Sponsor’s sole discretion, shall be deemed as tampering and may disqualify an entrant from entering, participating and/or winning a prize. When an entry is deemed to be duplicated by the Sponsor, in its sole discretion, only the first entry may be deemed valid, subject to compliance with all Contest Rules, in the Sponsor’s sole discretion whose decisions are final.
Entry forms that contain false or incomplete information are void. Entries that are late, lost, stolen, illegible, contain false information, are damaged, misdirected, mutilated, garbled or incomplete, altered or otherwise irregular or that do not conform with or satisfy any or all of the conditions of these Contest Rules are void. Entrants grant Sponsor a non-exclusive license to use all entries for any purpose. No correspondence will be entered into except with selected entrants. Proof of transmission (screenshots or captures, etc.) does not constitute proof of entry or receipt of an entry.
5. CONTEST PRIZES:
There are a total of twelve (12) prizes available to be won consisting of:
- Eight (8) $50.00 retail gift cards (two weekly prizes during each Weekly Entry Period).
- One (1) KitchenAid Artisan Mini Stand Mixer (approximate retail value (“APR”) $479.99).
- One (1) $5,000.00 Montana Hill Guest Ranch gift card. Must be redeemed within one (1) year from the date the winner is announced. Requests for accommodation are at the sole discretion of Montana Hill Guest Ranch and based on availability.
- One (1) set of 4 passes to Springbank Links Golf Club in Calgary, Alberta (value of $88 per pass plus GST). The passes cover the green fees for 18 holes and are valid Monday to Thursday. Must be redeemed within one (1) year from the date the winner is announced.
- One (1) roundtrip flight for the winner and a guest from any Canadian WestJet destination to any regularly scheduled and marketed WestJet destination (APR $4,240.00) (the “Trip Grand Prize”). See below for Trip Grand Prize details.
Limit one (1) gift card prize and one (1) Grand Prize per person. Prizes will decrease as awarded.
General Grand Prize Rules: All Grand Prizes are limited to the prize descriptions in these Official Rules and do not include transfers, meals, accommodation, tips or any other fee or expense not expressly described in these Rules.
Trip Grand Prize Rules: The Trip Grand prize consists of one (1) roundtrip flight for the winner and a guest from any Canadian WestJet destination to any regularly scheduled and marketed WestJet destination (maximum retail value $4,240.00. No cash value. Fees, taxes, surcharges not included. Blackout dates and the following restrictions apply):
- Fees, taxes, and surcharges are the responsibility of quests traveling and must be paid for at the time of booking with a valid credit card. Travel voucher does not include optional fees such as checked baggage or cabin upgrades.
- Valid on any regularly scheduled WestJet marketed and operated flight. Travel voucher is not valid for redemption on Westlet Vacations’ or Sunwing Vacations’ packages, flights operated by Sunwing Airlines, code share, charter or interline flights.
- All bookings and travel must be completed by December 1, 2025.
- Travel voucher is limited and subiect to promotional space availability of eligible fare options and flight schedule. Not all flights have promotional space.
- Flights must be roundtrip to and from the same locations. The Trip Grand prize winner and their guest must travel together on the same itinerary, dates and flights.
Under no circumstances whatsoever will any difference between the actual and approximate retail values be awarded. The Trip Grand Prize will be awarded with two WestJet travel vouchers.
The Trip Grand Prize winner must execute the Sponsor’s Declaration of Eligibility and Liability/Publicity Release (“Winner Release”) and the Trip Grand Prize winner’s guest (and the guest’s parent or legal guardian if a minor) must execute the Sponsor’s Travel Companion Release form prior to travel. All travel is subject to availability. The Trip Grand Prize value will vary depending on departure location, up to a maximum of $4,240.00, excluding taxes, fees and surcharges.
All winners assume any and all liability for any injury or damage caused, or claimed to be caused, by entering, participating in this promotion or use or redemption of a prize. All prizes must be accepted as awarded and have no cash value. Contest prizes or any portion thereof cannot be combined with other discounts, promotions or special offers. The Sponsor reserves the right to substitute an alternate prize of equal or greater value if an advertised prize is unavailable at time of award.
6. ODDS OF WINNING:
The odds of winning a prize depend on the number of eligible entries received during the Contest Period.
7. SKILL-TESTING QUESTION:
Selected Entrants will be required, as a condition to winning a prize, to correctly answer, without assistance of any kind, the Sponsor’s time-limited, mathematical skill-testing question.
8. WINNER SELECTION AND CONFIRMATION:
There will be four (4) separate and consecutive weekly draws during this Contest for gift card prizes and five (5) final Grand Prize draws on the dates below. An employee, agent or other representative of the Sponsor will conduct a random draw from all eligible entries received before the end of each Weekly Entry Period and select potential winners (the “Selected Entrants”). All Weekly Entry Period entries that do not win a weekly prize will be carried over into the following Weekly Entry Period. Limit one (1) gift card prize and one (1) Grand Prize per person.

The Sponsor’s designated representative will make one (1) attempt to contact each Selected Entrant by telephone or e-mail (using the information provided at the time of entry) within three (3) business days of the applicable Draw Date. If a Selected Entrant has not been contacted and/or made contact with the Sponsor’s designated representative within 48 hours of the first attempted contact, or there is a return of any notification as undeliverable, then they will be disqualified and the Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to randomly select an alternate Selected Entrant from among the remaining eligible entries received during the applicable Weekly Entry Period.
All Selected Entrants must meet all of the eligibility criteria set out in these Contest Rules in order to win a prize. If a Selected Entrant does not meet the eligibility criteria, he/she will be disqualified and will not receive a prize. Each Selected Entrant will be required, upon request by telephone or e-mail, to provide a mailing address for shipment of their prize.
Before being declared a winner, a Selected Entrant will be required to: (i) correctly answer the Sponsor’s skill-testing question; and (ii) sign and return the Sponsor’s Winner Release form; and (iii) comply with all other Contest Rules, all in the sole discretion of Sponsor. The Grand Prize winner will also be required to return a completed and signed Travel Companion Release form.
The Sponsor’s signed Winner Release forms (and Travel Companion Release form for the Grand Prize winner) must be received by the Sponsor no later than December 9, 2024 and sent to: info@takeactiononradon.ca. The Sponsor is not responsible for the failure for any reason whatsoever of a Selected Entrant to receive notification or for the Sponsor to receive a Selected Entrant’s response.
Disputes regarding identity of entrant:
If the identity of a Selected Entrant is disputed, the entry will be deemed to have been submitted by the Authorized Account Holder (the individual assigned to the e-mail address associated with the entry). Each Selected Entrant may be required to provide proof that he/she is the Authorized Account Holder associated with the selected entry.
9. RELEASE AND INDEMNIFICATION:
The winners must sign the Sponsor’s Winner Release form to: (i) confirm compliance with the Contest Rules; (ii) agree to accept the prize as awarded; (iii) release, discharge and hold harmless the Sponsor, its departments and agencies, parent, related and affiliated companies, subsidiaries, franchisees, advertising and promotional agencies, counsel, marketing partners, WestJet and Facebook and Instagram and each of their respective directors, officers, employees, shareholders, successors, sponsors, partners, licensees, subsidiaries, agents, artists, advisors, assignees, and all others associated with the administration, development and execution of the Contest (the “Released Parties”) from and against any and all manner of action, cause of action, claim or demand, loss or injury, use or misuse of a prize or any travel related thereto, and the use of the Entry by the Sponsor, suit, debt, covenant, contract, including legal fees and expenses, whatsoever, including but not limited to, claims based on negligence, breach of contract and fundamental breach, failure of any third party contractor or supplier used in connection with any aspect of the Contest to perform or deliver any goods or services, any act of God or any other event beyond the Released Parties’ control, any dissatisfaction of any kind by a winner with any aspect of the Contest or any prize, liability for physical injury, death, or property damage which the entrants, guests, their heirs, successors or assigns have, might have or could have suffered, by reason of or arising out of the entrant’s participation in the Contest and/or in connection with the acceptance and/or exercise by the entrant of the Prize as awarded; and (iv) indemnify the Released Parties against any loss, damage or expense, including legal fees, that any of the Released Parties may suffer or incur as a result of any non-compliance by an entrant with any of the Contest Rules or participation in the Contest and/or in connection with the acceptance and/or exercise by an entrant of a prize, including any travel thereto and the use of the Entry by Sponsor. The Grand Prize must also send the Sponsor a completed and signed copy of the Sponsor’s Travel Companion Release form.
The Sponsor is not responsible for: (i) incorrect or inaccurate entry information which may affect a person’s ability to participate in the Contest or be awarded a prize, including but not limited to human error, technical malfunctions, lost or delayed entries for any reason, mail failures, omission, or any combination thereof, and entries which fail to fully comply with these Contest Rules; (ii) technical failures of any kind, including, but not limited to malfunctions, interruptions, or disconnections in phone lines or network hardware or software; (iii) lost, incomplete, delayed, mutilated or misdirected entries or Winner Release or Travel Companion Release forms; (iv) injury or damage to the entrant’s computer or to any other individual’s computer related to or resulting from participating in, or downloading any material regarding the Contest or accepting a prize; (v) any injury or damage to persons or property which may be caused, directly or indirectly, in whole or in part, from entrant’s participation in the Contest or receipt or use or misuse of any prize, including any travel related thereto and the use of their entry by the Sponsor; (vi) the security or privacy of information transmitted via computer networks or for breaches of privacy due to interference by third party computer “hackers” or otherwise; or (vii) late, lost, misdirected or unsuccessful efforts to notify a potential winner.
10. CONDUCT:
The Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to disqualify any entrant it finds to be: (i) violating these Contest Rules; (ii) tampering or attempting to tamper with the entry process or the operation of this Contest; (iii) acting in an un-sportsperson-like or disruptive manner, or with the intent to annoy, abuse, threaten or harass any other person, all in the sole discretion of the Sponsor. Any attempt by an entrant or any other individual to undermine the legitimate operation of this Contest may be a violation of criminal and/or civil laws. Should any such attempt be made, the Sponsor reserves the right to seek remedies and damages to the fullest extent permitted by law.
11. OTHER CONDITIONS:
The Sponsor reserves the right to terminate or amend this Contest at any time and in any way, without prior notice. Without limiting the foregoing, if, for any reason, this Contest is not capable of running as originally planned for any reason, the Sponsor reserves the right to cancel the Contest and conduct a random draw from all previously received eligible entries received by the Contest End Date.
Publicity and entrant information:
By participating in this Contest, entrants consent to the use of their name, address, postal code, e-mail address, telephone number, social media handles, comments and image, whether on videotape, photograph or any other means, and entry and photograph submitted for entry into this Contest, which may be translated, edited or modified in any way, for the administration of this Contest or any publicity carried out by the Sponsor, without further notice or compensation.
Law:
This Contest is void where prohibited by law and is subject to all applicable Canadian federal, provincial, territorial, municipal and local laws. This Contest shall be governed exclusively by the laws of the province of Manitoba and the federal laws applicable therein, including all issues and questions concerning the construction, validity, interpretation and enforceability of these Contest Rules, rights and obligations between entrants and the Sponsor, and procedural provisions, without giving effect to any choice of law or conflict of law rules. Any dispute shall be adjudicated by the courts sitting in the city of Winnipeg, Manitoba.
Rule amendments:
The Sponsor reserves the right, in its sole discretion, to amend or modify these Contest Rules, or modify, cancel or suspend this Contest, without prior notice for any reason whatsoever, including without limitation in the event that any cause beyond the reasonable control of the Sponsor corrupts, or threatens to corrupt, the security or proper administration of this Contest.
Insurance:
The Sponsor may require the Grand Prize winner and any travel guest to obtain travel insurance, including trip cancellation insurance, prior to departure, in the Sponsor’s sole discretion.
Intellectual Property:
All intellectual property, including but not limited to trademarks, logos, designs, promotional materials, web pages, source codes, images, drawings, illustrations, slogans and representations are owned by the Sponsor. All rights are reserved. Unauthorized copying or use of any copyrighted material or other intellectual property without the express written consent of the Sponsor is strictly prohibited.
